| Predictions based on analysis of the distribution of dust from particular orbits of comet Temple Tuttle indicated a likely outburst on the 19 November with dual peaks at 04:00 and 11:00 UT. These predictions are summaries in the chart below.
The above predictions are for an Observer in London. For an observer at my location the Leonid radiant rose at 22:30 on the 18 November and set at approximately 14:30 UT on the 19th.
The chart above shows the actual radio counts, in ten minute intervals, from 00:00 UT until 16:00 UT on the 19th November 2002. It appears that the main Leonid peak did occur at 04:00 with activity remaining high until 12:00. The spiky nature of the counts is surprising, but having been observing visually for several hours around the peak I can confirm that activity did appear to come in bursts. |
